Physical Education Overview

At Greenholm we provide a PE curriculum that inspires pupils to enjoy leading healthy, active lifestyles through fun contemporary sport. As well as providing a variety of activities which allows our children to learn a broad range of life skills such as communication, collaboration and competition. Through physical education, sport and activity we aim for all children to develop their own physical competence and the confidence necessary to reach their personal bests. We promote active participation and lifelong learning through competitive sport.

 

All children receive at least one hour of taught physical education per week. Additional physical activity through play times, extra-curricular activities and sports are available to all children through a variety of seasonal sport clubs.

  • PE lessons covering ball games, gymnastics, dance and athletics
  • After school sports – dodgeball, multi skills, fun team games, netball. Football hockey and athletics.
  • Lunchtimes – just dance, ball activities, playground games and cricket.

We take part in cluster school competitions with schools in the local community. These are excellent competitions, which develop children’s competiveness, teamwork and competing for the school.

Hockey


Hockey is a new sport added to our clubs. Children are taught the basics of stick and ball control, along with the fundamental rules. They engage in small games as they develop and learn the game. We will take part in a Cluster Schools Hockey festival during the spring term.

 

 

 

 

 

Multi-skills and  Fun team Games


Children enjoy a variety of activities such as mini hurdles, hoop challenge, sticky wickets, running, skipping and jumping. The activities are designed to develop gross motor skills and team building whilst having fun. The multi-skills club led up to a cluster schools competition.

Netball


Last year, the netball team remained undefeated and were successful in winning the cluster schools trophy. Netball club is for boys and girls in year 5 and 6. We develop ball, co-ordination, team building and game skills, which will lead to the netball league matches against local schools in the area.

Football


Football training takes place on a Friday for boys and girls interested in training and playing. We are a part of the Aston schools league.
