Year 4 Curriculum Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to Year 4!

The theme for this term will be ‘Eco Warriors’ which we will link to Geography and Science. We will focus on the environment with particular focus on Birmingham and India.  We will be using atlases to find where recycling centres, landfills and jungles are located in the world.  We will also learn about different animals and how they are adapted to their habitats as well as how their habitats are being affected by human activity.

Music – We will continue with cornet, clarinet and cello lessons. These lessons take place on a Monday afternoon so please remember to bring in your instrument into school.

PE – PE is Thursdays and Fridays.  Please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit; Greenholm PE t-shirt, dark shorts or dark tracksuit bottoms, and suitable footwear (trainers for outdoor PE).

In literacy, we will be writing for a range of purposes including to inform, to instruct and to entertain. All literacy units will be linked to our theme of ‘Eco Warriors’. During literacy, we will also practise basic skills including handwriting, spelling and grammar.

In numeracy, we will be learning about division methods, shapes, fractions, time and measurements. We will also continue to consolidate written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Homework will be handed out on Fridays to be returned on Wednesdays. Please help children complete their homework and please support them to write neatly and produce quality work in their books. They must learn to take pride in their work and not rush it at the last minute. If your child has completed their home reader, they may go and change it.

We look forward to another productive term.
