Physical Education

Intent

At Greenholm Primary, our Physical Education (PE) curriculum is designed to inspire enjoyment, build confidence, and promote healthy, active lifestyles. Through inclusive opportunities and diverse learning experiences, pupils develop physical skills while fostering essential personal traits such as teamwork, respect, fairness, and self-esteem.

Our goal is to equip children with the knowledge and confidence to lead active lives, understand the importance of physical activity, and apply this understanding to positively impact their health and wellbeing. By promoting collaboration, resilience, and determination, we aim to nurture not just physical ability but character and lifelong healthy habits.

Rationale

The Greenholm PE curriculum ensures every pupil is given the tools and opportunities to excel across a wide range of sports and physical activities. By delivering a broad, balanced, and enjoyable curriculum, we inspire a lifelong love of fitness and physical activity.

Our program goes beyond physical competence, contributing to cognitive development by teaching decision-making, problem-solving, and reflection. It also fosters essential social skills such as teamwork, cooperation, and communication, while promoting self-esteem and resilience.

By encouraging pupils to engage in challenges, evaluate their performance, and celebrate successes, we empower them to grow as confident, motivated individuals who value the importance of a healthy lifestyle and physical wellbeing.
