Our Curriculum Intent
Our curriculum provides the knowledge, skills, and learning experiences to prepare all children to become positive global citizens.
PSHRE Intent
At Greenholm Primary School, personal, social, health and relationships education (PSHRE) supports our children to become independent, self-assured, and responsible members of our community who are equipped to contribute as positive global citizens.
Teaching of PSHRE
“Personal, Social, Health, Relationships Education (PSHRE) is a school subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. It helps children and young people to stay healthy and safe while preparing them to make the most of life and work.”
PSHE Association, 2021
At Greenholm, we have personalised the PSHE Associations’ ‘Programme of Study’ to suit our pupils, school and community; giving careful consideration to our school ethos and aims and our pupils’ needs. Our curriculum is split in to three stands: Relationships, Health and Well-being and Living in the Wider World. All statutory RHE objectives are covered. We believe that PSHRE is an integral part of our primary school curriculum and is taught weekly to support children’s development. British Values are promoted through the overarching aims and objectives of PSHE by supporting our children to become healthy and responsible members of society, as well as preparing them for life and work in modern Britain. Additionally, PSHRE plays a role in our collective worship sessions and reinforces our children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural curiosity.
Curriculum Impact
We are confident that our children are given many opportunities to develop their PSHRE skills both in and outside of the classroom. We have variety of opportunities for our children to develop the skills taught in PSHRE through activities such as: Greenholm’s Citizenship Project taken in years 5 and 6; school council meetings, school trips, ‘Rights Knights’, sports tournaments, Eco Council and during their time at school.
PSHRE Scheme Of Work
To support our curriculum, we utilise myHappymind – an NHS-backed curriculum for primary schools, secondary schools, and nurseries focused on building resilience, self-esteem, and happiness in children.
