Religious Education at Greenholm School
Through art, children develop skills that extend far beyond the classroom. They learn to embrace experimentation, take creative risks, and celebrate their efforts. This not only fosters a sense of pride in their work but also builds confidence, patience, and an appreciation for the value of perseverance.
Through learning about Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Buddhism, children engage with teachings, sacred texts, stories, festivals, and practices. They also reflect on universal themes like friendships, families, celebrations, helping others, and courage, connecting these to their own experiences and perspectives.
Religious Education Rationale
The RE curriculum provides a rich foundation for exploring faiths and beliefs in a meaningful way. By aligning topics with each year group’s themes, we ensure children can draw connections between religious beliefs, history, and geography, enriching their understanding.
Key Stage 1
In Key Stage 1, children explore stories from major faiths, focusing on their meanings and the significance of key figures. They begin to discuss themes like thankfulness, celebrations, and fairness, and learn about practices such as the Five Pillars of Islam and the Ten Commandments. These early experiences build a foundation of empathy, understanding, and curiosity about the world.
Key Stage 2
In Key Stage 2, pupils delve deeper into religious practices, festivals, and significant figures while exploring complex themes such as prejudice, courage, honesty, and forgiveness. They examine how different faiths respond to challenges like environmental care and belonging, encouraging reflection on both religious teachings and their personal experiences.
Our curriculum incorporates a variety of engaging activities, including handling artifacts, visiting places of worship, and reading religious texts. These experiences not only deepen understanding but also develop key skills in reading, writing, collaboration, and discussion.

Religious Education at Greenholm goes beyond learning about faiths—it encourages respect, empathy, and thoughtful reflection.
